8 Day Tasmanian Wildlife Encounter

Australia’s island state of Tasmania provides a rare opportunity to encounter unique and endemic wildlife in a geographically concentrated area. The Tasmanian devil heads the extensive list of animals that will be observed on this small group tour. Your guide will provide you with the opportunity to closely experience this iconic species in its natural environment.

 

Day 1  HOBART – STRAHAN

Your first day will take you into the heart of Tasmania’s wilderness and to Tasmania’s dramatic West Coast. In the evening, witness little Penguins coming ashore at Bonnet Island (weather permitting).

Day 2  STRAHAN – CRADLE MOUNTAIN

Enter the UNESCO World Heritage Wilderness of Cradle Mountain National Park. Begin to unwind to the harmonic sounds found only in this true wilderness.

Day 3 CRADLE MOUNTAIN NATIONAL PARK

Enjoy an interpreted bush walk through the National Park among Tasmanian rainforest and the native Pandani, the tallest heath plant in the world. Observe native birdlife such as Forest Ravens, Currawongs and Wedge-tailed Eagles.

Day 4 ROCKY CAPE – NARAWNTAPU

Visit Rocky Cape National Park, once a reliable hunting ground for Tasmania’s traditional owners. In the evening, enjoy a wildlife spotlighting expedition in Narawntapu National Park, home to an abundance of kangaroos, wombats, wallabies and many other marsupials.

Day 5  HAWLEY BEACH – BAY OF FIRES – BICHENO

Wake up to a relaxed morning in a traditional Tasmanian homestead before departing for the East Coast. Visit Binalong Bay, located in the Bay of Fires Conservation area, on your way to the seaside village of Bicheno. In the evening, enjoy a Tasmanian Devils after dark experience.

Day 6 FREYCINET NATIONAL PARK – WINEGLASS BAY

Today you have ample time to explore the picturesque Freycinet National Park with one of the world’s top 10 beaches, Wineglass Bay. White-bellied sea eagles and Australian gannets are often observed in the area.

Day 7  RICHMOND – HOBART

Travel south along the East Coast, visit Bonorong Wildlife Sanctuary, a centre for native wildlife rescue and rehabilitation. Continue to Hobart via the charming historic township of Richmond.

Day 8  BRUNY ISLAND

Today embark on the award winning Bruny Island Cruise for the opportunity to spot a variety of Southern Ocean marine wildlife and fascinating coastal geology. Enjoy some of Bruny Islands’ culinary delights before concluding the tour in Hobart.
