Are you not a camper? Do you prefer a morning coffee, a hot steamy shower or an outdoor bath on your private deck? Love to sleep on soft pillows and under cosy blankets?
Don’t worry, we have the right choice for you. Luxuriously fitted out tents are combining everything good about camping and glamour together. Exchange your luxury suite for an unordinary tent accommodation, you won’t be disappointed.
Cold showers become steamy soaks in deep copper tubs, and fireside refried beans become culinary experiences. The best part, everyone can glamp. There are the beachgoers who love a fireside chat to connoisseurs with a penchant for the gourmet.
Glamorous camping is not only possible but an ideal way to see many of Tasmania’s great locations without sacrificing comfort. You swap a sleeping bag for a bed with plump pillows and fine linen and campfire food for three-course meals. The only thing that stays the same is that you’re in a tent. This is truly a five-star way to enjoy the great outdoors.
Why is glamorous camping in a tent so popular? Because glamping is where posh meets adventure.
These luxury and sometimes not so luxury accommodations can be found in many places in Australia, especially in Tasmania. Tents are dotted along the east coast and on the Tasman Peninsula. North of Launceston in the Tamar Valley with its world-class vineyards. 30 Minutes outside of Hobart in the Huon Valley and close to Binalong Bay. And in the wilderness of the Tasmanian west coast not far away from the stunning Tarkine region.
A few examples where glamping is possible in Tasmania:
The Bay of Fires bush retreat:
Fancy a boutique glam camp also an excellent base for exploring the Bay of Fires and Binalong Bay with miles of beaches to walk and mountain bike tracks to ride. Back at camp, warm log fires, home-cooked Tassie brisket, and tall tales await weary legs. Enjoy a backyard siesta in the black Acapulco-style chairs (they’re as comfortable as they are retro). This retreat nails beachside glamping with gorgeous scandi-styled Bell Tents and hot showers. Live-in chef Tom can often be found firing up the smoker to prepare smoked fish for gourmet platters. You can cook up a storm using the communal kitchen or ask to cook over the fire for something different. From here, it’s an ideal base for exploring the Bay of Fires with miles of beaches to walk on. And it’s only 60 minutes away from Freycinet and Wineglass Bay.
Scamander Sanctuary:
Are you travelling with a tribe? Tuck them in under the stars in safari-style tents at Scamander Sanctuary Holiday park. From your tent, you can hear the rumble of the surf from Steels Beach calling you to polish up on your paddle boarding and surfing skills with local surf instructors. Your campsite neighbours are quiet, only coming out after dark – they’re also fluffy and super cute. Don’t forget to pack a flashlight so you can meet them. From camp, you’re an hour from the Bay of Fires and even less to Bicheno, where you can watch Little Penguins waddle ashore each night.
Wingtons Glamping:
Reminiscent of a scene in a lavish African safari movie, Wingtons Glamping conjures up visions of 1930s grand touring. Vintage steamer trunks and Persian carpets transport you to a time when camping in the outdoors was glamorous. Luxury Bell Tents are your accommodation set up riverside and furnished with fur throws, cosy queen beds, BOSE speakers and wood heaters. Watch movies projected on the tent wall at night, snuggle in front of the wood heater, and nibble on Anvers chocolate truffles. All you need to bring is local food and wine, cosy star-watching clothes, swimmers to kayak on the river, and a sense of adventure.
Glamp Sandridge:
More than a regular campsite, Glamp Sandridge is a Bell Tent luxury set amidst five hundred acres of private forest with pairings of wombats and wine, forests and quaint wood fires. The in-ground fire pit is just a short stroll from your tent, where a classic Adirondack chair has your name on it. All that’s left to do is to hunt down a stick to toast your marshmallows. Take your food supply to gourmet levels by picking out treats from local farmers’ markets.
Domescapes in the vines:
Your home away from home for the discerning traveller. Domescapes is an exciting way to experience a little slice of Tasmania whilst enjoying magnificent panoramic views and savouring some of the islands’ delights. Upon arrival, unwind by taking a stroll amongst the vines, or relax and soak up the panoramic views from the comfort of your private dome, complete with ensuite (now that’s glamping in style!), whilst enjoying selected Tasmanian wines and a yummy Tasmanian cheese platter. After exploring the fantastic Tamar Wine Region not far from Launceston, relax and soak up the views from your own outdoor bathtub (available with some domes) on your deck. At the same time, you enjoy another wine and roast marshmallows in the firepit. It doesn’t get any better than this.
NRMA Port Arthur glamping:
Sleep in style and enjoy all the creature comforts in one of the only two available glaring tents at Port Arthur. Chose from the trendy Stargazing safari tent or the just one bedroom safari tent. Only 90 minutes from Hobart, out and about in bushland and among the Tasmanian wildlife. There’s nothing better when travelling the Tasman Peninsula. Why not incorporate a visit to the Tasmanian Devil Unzoo and the world-heritage listed Port Arthur historic site. It’s all very close to your accommodation.
