3 day Fungi of Tasmania private tour – South West

The largest remaining area of ancient Gondwanan rainforest is protected within the Southwest Wilderness Area of Tasmania. The fringes of these rainforests are often dominated by more recent giant Eucalypt trees and are home to a rich and unique flora of fungi, moss and lichens. The diversity of fungi is astonishing, with many species and varieties still to be documented.

This 3-day privately guided tour takes you deep into Tasmania’s oldest national park, Mt Field, and the ancient rainforests of the Southwest Wilderness Area to explore and discover fungi only found in this region of the world.

This small group tour is specifically designed to allow time for macro photography, interpretation, and discussion to cater for both the novice and experienced fungi enthusiast.  Your local guide, an experienced mycologist, will share his scientific knowledge of fungi, the ecology of these unique and ancient forests, and other aspects of Tasmania’s natural history.
